Meet Yasmeen

About Little Postal Travels

This blog started out as a simple mail blog back in 2010 known as "Carried Away by Mail" and then "Once Upon A Letter". I blogged on and off but mostly off. I felt like people weren't really interested, but I wanted to spread the hobby of snail mail. I just didn't know how. It wasn't until 2012 that I found many new snail mail related blogs that were becoming popular. I see now lots of people are wanting to do snail mail. It's really exciting to see snail mail grow and become a trend again. Snail mail isn't just a piece of stationery/paper that took days (or even months) to arrive. No. It's much more than that. It's being able to communicate and bond more without the need of technology. Today, we are so caught up in texting and what not. So why not take a break and give snail mail a try! I guranteed you will become a snail mail addict. So what are you waiting for, let your postal travel begin! :)

Meet the Blogger

Name:  Yasmeen

Age: 20

Current Location: Seattle, WA [USA]

Bio-  Hello! Nice to meet you here & thank you for stopping by! My name is Yasmeen. I'm the blogger here at "Little Postal Travels". I'm a 20-year-old girl and been an I.O.U. student since March of 2013.

Home- I was born in Louisiana but moved to Michigan at the age of 4. I have lived in Michigan for 10 years (from age 4-14). When I was 14, my family and I then moved to Virginia. We stayed there until December of 2012 and that's when we moved to Washington State, where I currently live now :)

I was home-schooled grades Kindergarten through 4th grade and went to public school for grades 5-10 (from the last year of elementary school until the second year of high school). For grades 5-9, I went to school in Michigan and for 10th grade, I studied in Virginia.

When I was in 11th grade, I decided to be home-schooled again (by choice). I hung around nerds, gangsters, and popular chicks (I was one) at school & I just needed to find myself and think about the person I really wanted to be & the life I wanted to live. I also wanted to build a closer relationship with God and my family. I have changed a lot since high school (I'm sure you could ask my friends...they'd know), but I've changed for the better of me and my family. So it's been a positive change!! :)

Now I'm currently attending a religious university online called "Islamic University Online". I didn't want to have to attend college/university in person as I really wanted to study more in depth about my religion in the comfort of my own home and just work on becoming a better person everyday. I really didn't want to have to go to university to be a big time doctor or anything like that (not that there's anything wrong with that- it's just my personal choice). I just want to be like my mom- a homemaker /s.a.h.m. and be able to raise kids of my own someday and not miss a moment of their lives. Though I do plan on working my way up in blogging, photography, e-books, and who knows what else is in store for the future. I'm also thinking about taking different classes.

Also, keep in mind, just because I try to focus on religion, doesn't mean I'll force it on you. I'm not that kind of person at all. After all, religion isn't something that can be forced into someone's heart. I enjoy learning and studying about all the different religions!!

Snail Mail-  As you can tell, snail mail is one of my most favorite hobbies. It started as a hobby of mine when I was younger. I'm happy to be here blogging about this wonderful hobby and I hope that my blog encourages others to spread this mail love! :)

What do I like to write about?-  I love to write within a broad range of topics anywhere from politics, religion, history, science, interesting facts, hobbies, blogs, or just life in general! Nothing really bores me in a letter. You can tell me almost anything and make it as long as you want. The longer the better! What really bores me, however, are short really short letters (1 paragraph long-1 page).

Collect?-  I love to collect a variety of things >>

 - Coins/banknotes
- Vintage/thrift store/flea market items (ie. hankies, pocketwatches,  jewelery, trinkets, brooches, ephemera, maps, tickets, etc).
- Incense Sticks
- Newspaper clippings in different languages
- Children books in different languages
- Postage Stamps
- Photos (regular, printed on paper, or Polaroids)
- Candy
- Craft Supplies
- Tin Containers
- Journals, planners, traveling notebooks
- Anything postal/airmail-related
- Zines, quotes, poems!

Every collection I have received from a penpal tells a story and I love to be able to hold on to it and pass it on from generation to generation.

Likes- lace, doily, bags, crafts, scrapbooking, journals, Hallmark
cards, photos, parcels, Peter Pan collar, dresses
peppermint, maple lotions, scarves, ribbons, snowglobes
Paris, Cath Kidston, floral, pastel colors, globes, maps,
vintage, flea markets, trinkets, lockets, pocketwatches,
jewelery, organic things, Moomins, Jip en Janneke,
              CheburaskaBabbelaars, Hopjes,
              Thornton's Chocolate, Fazier Dumle Chocolate...

Dislikes- tattoos*, skeletons, haunted/creepy stuff, piercings,
                   pin-upsanything inappropriate
(nudity, drugs, violence, etc), Halloween, Disney,
                   Spongebob Squarepants, the Simpsons, licorice,
veggies, green tea, cereal box toys (lol), Hello Kitty

* Note:  Just because you have tattoos, don't worry- I won't hate you, lol! I'm just saying that I
personally dislike them not that I dislike people with tattoos.

CRAFTY- I'm a crafty person! I love to go on Pinterest and blogs and find all kind of diy projects to do! I'm a person who likes to try to recycle. Oh and when it comes to Pinterest, I'm like literally glued to the screen. I can stay on there for hours looking up different things!

UNIQUE- I love to try to show my crafty side in my letters! I always try to make each and every letter unique! :) That's another thing I am- unique. I don't really like to copy other people's ideas and claim them as my own. I like to be different and come up with ideas of my own! I'm always proud of myself when I have accomplished something.

Something I'm not- your typical American teenager/adult. Instead of finding me at the mall buying a pair of high heel shoes and a handbag or hanging out with friends, you'll find me mostly at home or in a craft aisle of a store. So I'm not the kind of person who go outs to parties, bars, and smokes/drinks and watches "the Big Bang" all day. I'm probably the one and only 1% of the teen population who is different from all other teens. Yep, I'm a total alien! Ok, not really! I'm a girl with good morals & my religion helps me to have such morals! :) I like to dress modestly while also fashionably! Speaking of dressing, I love maxi dresses (especially vintage ones with peter pan collars) and maxi skirts. I love to wear rings and necklaces, however, I don't wear jewelery very often.

So now you know about me and my journey,
now tell me about you! :-)

To get an idea of what I like, feel free to view my wishlist at the top of the page on the menu of my blog! ^^

I love your personality and Infeel the same way about all your likes and dislikes! It's nice knowing that there are other teens that enjoy things that others ignore or think is boring or uncool.

All these photos are mine unless otherwise stated.
Pretty please with a cherry on top- do NOT use any of my photos without my consent and do not claim these photos as yours. I'd highly appreciate that, thank you! :) You may use these images ONLY, if you give me credit, so that people know these are my works and no one elses.
